Knocki is a smart device that attaches to surfaces like walls and tables and turns them into a remote control interface. Knocki detects preset tap or knock patterns on tables, walls, counters, and doors that then run specified actions in a connected app.
Knocki is used in homes all over the world with active users in 92 countries and across 10,000 unique surfaces.
As a smart home control interface, connected device integrations are a core function of the Knocki experience. The more integrations Knocki supports, the more capabilities Knocki customers can use.
One of the biggest challenges in this effort has been the fragmentation of smart home technologies. There are many smart home devices and services available but very few ways to connect those services together. Prior to working with Yonomi, Knocki owned the process of integrating with device APIs to make it possible for them to expand their ecosystem. Every integration has a unique set of characteristics and properties. The lack of standardization between devices makes the process slow, expensive, and painful. Building one device integration took over a month of engineering hours and significant resources to complete.
Despite the smart home promise to make life easier, making devices interoperate with each other is challenging. Using the Yonomi Integrations API, Knocki has integrated with Sonos, TP-LINK, Honeywell, Schlage, and Logitech, each in about a week. Development is faster due to the vast Yonomi library, existing resources, and the customer success team who is available to answer any questions. The process of expanding integrations is purposefully streamlined to maximize efficiency.
The Yonomi Platform also allows the Knocki team to add smart home rules and routines to Knocki’s list of features using Yonomi Routines. Instead of depending on a unique gesture to control each device, Knocki users can program single gestures to trigger routines — transforming their entire living space with a few taps on the wall. With Yonomi, Knocki focuses its engineering dollars and time on core competencies while moving faster than ever on expanding its crucial integration ecosystem.
“If you are looking for a company that will help you to connect or integrate with other devices, Yonomi is the best option you can find. There is no technical partnership that I have found to be more rewarding and valuable. The people at the company are great, the solutions are great, and the results speak for themselves.” commented Jake Boshernitzan, the Founder and CEO of Knocki.
